SPIDERJACK

The Spiderjack is a multi-functional ascending and descending device, comparable to the Lockjack. It unites functions and allows movements by the climber which until now were not offered by any other device, or were not possible in a combination of both.

Owing to the unique construction of the Spiderjack, the rope runs through the rope duct without any notable rope slackening as soon as the moving rope is pulled above the device or the load effect on the device is lifted. As a result, new efficient functions become possible. The rope under load can be shortened one-handed, and safe self-blocking goes without saying. This occurs without rope loss. Some of the special functions have already been realised in the Lockjack; but the Spiderjack beats all those previously seen.

A change in the direction of the rope takes place using the release lever and is facilitated by a groove on its inside. This new feature allows the completely free passage of the rope even in cases where the redirected rope runs in a flat angle or through crotches. In contrast to the Lockjack where rope redirection requires a carabiner or a pulley fastened to the harness, there is no need for this detour with the Spiderjack.

The new blocking lever is made of a special wood with a high friction factor, which is very wear-resistant at the same time. This brake is operated by the thumb and can be very sensitively regulated from extremely slow to extremely fast rope movement, a practiced user provided.

The user can choose between two operating modes. In the case of walking along the limb, the rope can be delicately controlled by keeping the hand on the rope and the finger on the release/redirection lever. This function is familiar from the Positioner. In the case of descending and swinging, passage of the rope can be regulated by the novel braking lever with a precision unknown before. With this variation the climber’s hand does not come into contact with the moving rope, and hands and gloves are protected – a particularly advantageous feature where the abseiling speed is high.

Safe self-blocking of the Spiderjack goes without saying by means of the proven ART clamping technology. The friction hitch ensures a safe stop function, irrespective of whether the rope is thick, thin, new, old, dry or wet.

The Spiderjack may be used for climbing ropes from Ø 11 to 13 mm.
One and the same clutch may be used for rope from Ø11 to 13 mm.

The use of the Spiderjack does not require more than one carabiner.

The result is a system of a convenient, uniquely compact size.

As with all other ART devices, all wear parts of the Spiderjack are replaceable.

The Spiderjack is certified in accordance with the European standard EN 358. The principle underpinning the Spiderjack has been acknowledged and protected by means of an independent patent.
